The Erfinder family is full of great musicians - except for Suzy. Seemingly bereft of her family's musical skills, she labors as a librarian, yearning for the excitement and adventures found in the books that surround her.

Things take a turn for the bizarre when she is approached by a strange old man who offers to teach her to play the Cacophone, a mysterious and ungainly instrument with a long and sordid history. Her playing leads to a series of strange events that ultimately force her to confront her family's destiny and solve the mystery of the peculiar instrument.

This short is a collaborative thesis production from the Savannah College of Art and Design. It represents the culmination of years of study for a number of Masters of Fine Arts candidates in the university's school of Film and Digital Media. With a skilled crew of more than 20 up-and-coming filmmakers and a cast featuring fresh, undiscovered talent, The Cacophone is a landmark production.

In addition to the impressive talent involved on both sides of the camera, The Cacophone is a groundbreaking technical achievement. Embracing a fully-digital workflow, this project was shot, edited, and prepared for theatrical projection using High Definition Digital Video - the same technology employed on the latest "Star Wars" films, as well as "Sin City" and "Collateral."

The Cacophone was a joy to create and a valuable learning experience for everyone involved. With a tiny bit of money, a lot of time, and immeasurable effort from the cast and crew, we were able to craft a film that we feel is fun, funny, and enjoyable. We hope you agree!
